Mortgage Help LOL!

The setting...a certain, large mortgage company who someone I know deals with, on the phone, speaking with "Jane" who is calling about mortgage assistance. Synopsis of conversation:

Jane: I'm calling to see if I can get a couple of payments moved to the end of my loan.
Rep: Looking at your account now...um, your payment for this month isn't late.
Jane: I know that but I also know that some upcoming circumstances will make paying this payment difficult, if not impossible.
Rep: As I said, your payment isn't late. Since you're not late, I can't help you.
Jane: What should I do?
Rep: Well, I can't tell you to not make your payment but...
Jane: So, you can't help me unless I'm behind. Wouldn't you rather I ask for help now instead of waiting until you foreclose on my home?
Rep: Like I said, if you were late, then I could "transfer you to that department". Sorry, I can't help you, will there be anything else?

I read an article on Yahoo! about this very problem. (Apologies, I forgot to jot down the link.) If these big companies want to work with the general public in keeping their homes, they sure have an interesting way of showing it. In most cases, you will be in default before any help is offered, if it is, and the "help" takes so long, most people are so far behind that all they can do is walk away. I don't think these big mortgage companies need any bailout money since they apparently don't need our payments, either. I guess they'd rather become real estate brokers.
