HUD announced on May 29, 2009, further enhancements to the First Time Home Buyer tax credit. In essence, this alteration in the original legislation will allow the tax credit to be utilized during the purchase of a home in the form of down payment assistance. It's not as simple as it sounds, the outstanding caveat being it must be an FHA loan and the buyer still has to cough up the 3.5% down payment on their own.
