Before it's too late
If you wonder why people are concerned about drilling so close to our white, gorgeous beaches, read this article "Hello Drilling Goodbye Paradise"
We only have limited resources in this world. If we keep this up, there won't be a final Judgment Day, we will destroy ourselves with no help from a deity.
Frustrated and concerned,

May Local Housing Stats
media.living.net released the May statistics from the Florida Association of Realtors and things are both up and down, which is our "normal" right now. National trends are still showing sales up, pricing down. It seems things are slowly stabilizing but, again, only time will tell. Here's the data:
Ft. Walton Beach/Destin area: We started the year with 118 single family home sales, May comes in at 236. One year ago, sales were at 222. Median price for May 2009 is $197,600, a 14% drop from last May. Condo sales have gone from 25 in January to 82 as compared to 86 one year ago this month. Again, prices from May '08 to May '09 dropped 37%.
Pensacola area: January began with 162 units sold, we are now sitting at 300 family housing units sold. Prices are sitting at $151,400, down about 10% from May last year. Condo sales were at 11 in January and are now at 45 units. Surprisingly, this month as compared to last year at this time, the prices are up 16%.
Moral of the story...things are changing, prices are astonishing in some areas, but signs of further stabilization will hopefully continue throughout our area.

Article about Mozilo
I stumbled across the article (click on link above) or copy and paste this into your browser: http://www.northjersey.com/opinion/moreviews/Outrage__and_business_as_usual.html to read an interesting comparison between the Countrywide meltdown and the Enron fiasco.
Should we be outraged or not surprised by the level of greed of the CEOs in the mortgage industry pre-real estate crash of 2006?

More Help for FTHB's
HUD announced on May 29, 2009, further enhancements to the First Time Home Buyer tax credit. In essence, this alteration in the original legislation will allow the tax credit to be utilized during the purchase of a home in the form of down payment assistance. It's not as simple as it sounds, the outstanding caveat being it must be an FHA loan and the buyer still has to cough up the 3.5% down payment on their own. Click on the title of this entry for information directly from HUD or go to http://www.hud.gov/news/release.cfm?content=pr09-072.cfm
